2009 - David Hobbs
David Hobbs, legendary sports car racer and popular SPEED Channel commentator, headlined the 14th annual Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance as the honoree.
The fabulous and rarely seen "Phantom Corsair” wowed an estimated 15,000 spectators on a perfect spring day on the North Florida coast.
RM Auctions posted another strong total with nearly $12 million worth of collector automobiles crossing the block.
Front-engine Indy roadsters made a return to Daytona International Speedway for demonstration laps; it was their first appearance at the track in 50 years. The cars also made up a special class on the show field and were part of an entertaining seminar called "The Great Roadster Drivers.”
Amelia’s popular seminar series also celebrated the 50th anniversary of the very first United States Grand Prix Formula One race, which was held at Sebring International Raceway.
In a different interpretation of what a featured marque is, the elegant creations of famed Southern California coachbuilder Bohman & Schwartz were honored instead of a specific automotive make.
