Tom Cotter

A born enthusiast, Tom Cotter began repairing and selling cars during his teenage years. He later applied this knowledge and background to the business of automotive marketing when he joined a New Jersey motorsport public relations agency in the early 1980s. In 1985, he became Director of Public Relations for Charlotte (now Lowe's) Motor Speedway, a position Cotter held for four years until he decided to start his own company. At that time and with the support of many previous colleagues and clients, he founded The Cotter Group and built it into the world's largest motorsport marketing communications firm employing more than 90 staffers specializing in motorsport public relations, marketing, promotions, hospitality, licensing, publishing, and consulting. After 12 years of handling some of the largest companies in the consumer products, racing, and automobile industries, The Cotter Group was sold to The SFX Sports Group, a division of Clear Channel Communications.

Throughout his years in the industry, Cotter's true appreciation for automobiles has continued to grow. He remains an active road racer, and competes regularly in vintage sports car races around the country. Never far from a track or automotive event, Cotter has a personal collection of approximately 40 vintage automobiles and sports cars, including several British sports cars, a 289 Cobra, and a large Ford Woody Wagon collection. He is also the author of several best-selling enthusiast books, including, "The Cobra in the Barn: Great Stories of Automotive Archaeology," and its recent sequel, "The Hemi in the Barn: More Great Stories of Automotive Archaeology."
